No more Environmental Ethics...the class

THANK GOD.

Don't get me wrong, I do what I can to contribute to environmentalbullcrapism.
It seems like the main point my professor wanted to present today was that Portland is full of Hipster/Vegan/Animal Rights activists (which it is).
However, he hardly even touched on global warming or soil degradation.

I don't know, maybe this is why I don't take Philosophy courses.

Props to all you philosophers... and Louie in Pasadena.

by the way

I should be writing my final paper for environmental ethics...

Here's something funny that you women out there should check out.
I babysit for someone. She has a little girl, Baby G - who's my fav to babysit. Her mother is a comedian/lawyer/mama...and this is her blog.
(warning, a bit R-rated but none-the-less hilarious!)

Just so you know

I was looking at Jenna and Phil's pictures from Cabo.

I said: "man, that looks fun."

Chris said: "and this isn't?" -- as he proceeds to sing and play on the guitar...

"smell my farts and I want to eat pizza"

HELP!

(This actually made me laugh really hard. Chris is so weird. But I love him!!!)

It's been a while...

I left my camera at my parent's house... so, no new pictures here.

But, we had a very nice Thanksgiving. It was a big group this year: Mom, Dad, Em, AJ, Eli, Taylor, Jonah, Kelly, Kelly's brother Cole, our neighbor Carrie, Chris and I, and Grammy.

It was delicious! And FUN! My mom made vegi stuffing, tofu mushroom gravy, and lots of other yummy dishes for us vegitarians. Chris brought a field roast Celebration Roast and it was sooooo good. We made left over sandwiches on Friday.

When we got home, Chris said, "Hanging out with your parents is good for the soul."

I couldn't agree more.

Is it Christmas break yet???

Nope.

Not even Thanksgiving.

I'm writing two very long papers tonight. I tend to procrastinate, which makes life harder. Why do I do this every term? Do I like having a harder life? Do I secretly love typing for hours on end -- about old people!? Is there something inside of me that says, 'Sarah, just wait... it will be way more fun to type this the day before it's due.'

Ladies and gentlemen... I think NOT.

Boo. That's all I have tonight.

I thought I had failed my midterm... but instead I got a B!!!
It's not the best grade. But when you're expecting an F, a B is a lot better.
Take that Social Gerontology!

Crazy Night!

So I got a new job at a pub in NE called The Broadway Grill and Brewery. Here are a couple things that are cool :

1. $2.00 Bloody Mary's on Sunday (one of my favs, but I can't drink 'em because I work Sundays! Boo.)

2. Tips. It's nice to serve again and bring home the bacon (not really bacon. I don't eat meat. YUCK)

3. Being around actual co-workers besides my nephew AJ (even though he TRULY is the best little boy in the world... I was his nanny for 6 months) Check him out!

Here are some things that are a little crazy....

1. Tonight the computers crashed. I felt like my brain was going to explode (which simultaneously corresponds with 2)

2. My table of 10 people got angry at me because I wouldn't split their tab 6 different ways... we just won't allow that! So, the owner of the bar called the COPS on them because they were getting out of hand (I was shakin' in my boots.... clogs actually, new danskos woo!)

3. Having to manually put out "the Drunk Guy's" ciggy when there's no smoking in our bar! YUCK! (But he did tip me $10 just for doing that)

FREAKS!

birthday dinner

Tiff was so sweet and took me out to dinner this Friday. We went to Montage and had some drinks and some spold mac... Yum. After we got some drinks and desert at Backstage by my house.

It's my birthday and look what my boyfriend made me!!

He's still a sweetheart :)

Oregon Primate Research Center???

We had a guest speaker today in my Environmental Ethics class. He worked at this Primate Research Center in Hillsboro, Oregon. After 24 years of living in Oregon, somehow it's been kept a secret to me and many others. I had no idea Oregon hosts one of the biggest animal testing facilities in the nation.

The speaker was also one of the main providers for a documentary called "Chattel," which we watched an expert from. He provided the documentary with footage that he shot at the Primate Research Center in the two years that he worked there. No one knew he had been secretly filming what goes on there.

Viewing this footage was SHOCKING.
Right around the corner from where I live scientists are testing on monkeys and I find this to be very upsetting, disheartening and sad. I know there are always two sides to a story, and maybe this testing has provided scientists with some worthy information, but where do we draw the line? None of the scientists or doctors involved at this research center would talk about their involvement. The producer of the documentary wanted to show both sides of animal testing, but somehow couldn't get those in favor to speak. I wonder why...

First timer!

I decided that I'm missing out on all of the fun. Now I can share some of my life with those that I don't get to see very often!
