i've been sewing...

Sunday morning I was getting frustrated because I couldn't thread my machine! I kept calling my mom, until finally she said her and my dad were driving up to help me! So nice. Luckily I live two blocks from an awesome fabric store, Cool Cottons, and my mom picked up some sewing essentials for me. I got the prettiest fabrics, and made this little change bag/makeup bag. So fun!

Cat Party

If you know me, you know I love animals... especially cats! Chris and I had been talking about getting another cat for a while, so when we went to the Humane Society we couldn't leave without another precious kitty! We adopted Tilda, another tortoise shell female who is the sweetest! Wanda is getting used to her being around, although she was a little apprehensive at first. Tilda loves to snuggle, play, and eat. Tilda also knows not to go into our bedroom because Wanda has definitely claimed that as HER room. When I was little, we always had two cats around the house. It just makes more sense. Right? hehe.

Yesterday when I was taking out the trash, I noticed these two neighbor cats enjoying the sun. I just had to take a picture because I thought it was so funny how they were sitting together on the steps. These cats are just 2 of the 12 cats in our courtyard....yes, 12 now.

on soup

I just made potato leek soup, and I'm not sure what to think of it. My sister Taylor said it's the easiest, yummiest, 5 ingredient soup ever - potatoes, leeks, water, salt & pepper. Has anyone made it before? Did you add more to it? I feel like it needs some spice, or herb action... but I don't want to make it worse.

Crap.

I have been inspired....

...to sew! Ruby's recent post about her new sewing machine and all her beautiful creations has made me itch to start sewing! My mother was a professional seamstress out of our house for many years when I was growing up, and I learned on an old singer just like Ruby's green beauty. I had been looking at thrift stores and vintage shops for only a week when I came across this magnificent machine and cabinet! A major bargain for only $40! The cabinet also included an authentic "White" brand button maker, needles, bobbins, a box of attachments and all the original manuals! I'm so excited to get this baby goin - It needs a little tune-up, but other than that... this is one solid machine, from 1938! (my mom says my grammy had one just like it).
